ERASMUS
Erasmus is Europe's education and training programme that seeks to promote language learning and to encourage mobility. It is part of the Life Long Learning Programm (LLP) and consists of several actions including a programme in the area of higher education. Both students and teaching staff can benefit from Erasmus activities.
E R A S M U S (EuRopean Action Scheme for the Mobility of University Students) is named after the humanist and theologian Desiderius Erasmus of Rotterdam (1465-1536).The programme gives students the opportunity to study for a period of 3 to 12 months at a partner university. A grant (appprox. 200 Euro/month) is offered to help to cover the cost of travelling and the difference in cost of living. A period of study in another country is very rewarding in personal, academic and social terms. Contacts with another country enables the student to become more adaptable, provides inter-cultural communication skills and is a considerable plus point on the employment market. Erasmus also provides support for teachers giving short courses (minimum 8 hours lecture/week) at a partner university. Since our group started to participate in the Erasmus program in 1997 the number of partner universities increased each year. Several of our students have been able to take advantage of the mobility arrangements under Erasmus: They prepared their diploma, bachelor thesis, master thesis, or small thesis (Studienarbeit) at a partner university. All their theses were fully recognized at TU Berlin. On the other side, several students and teachers from abroad came to Berlin and made many friends at our Institute. We are truly happy with their outstanding performance and the quality of their research.
